If you are like me, a travel addict, you probably already have a list of the top destinations you want to visit this year. As art can be a great source of travel inspirations, today we suggest to you the best artsy travel destinations for 2024 by the hands of the great masters of art history. Let’s go!

1. Experience the Most Authentic Winter in Scandinavian Countries

Well, if you want to start the year experiencing the most authentic winter, there is no better destination than the northern countries! Claude Monet also thought this, so he went on a trip to Norway in 1895. There, the French painter stayed in Sandvika, a small village near Oslo. He exchanged the effects of light on his garden back home with its effects on snowflakes and reflections on the water for the luminous glow of snow. The painter gives even more intensity to the snowy scene by contrasting the complementary colors red and blue.

2. Celebrate the Most Famous Carnival in Venice

The city of  gondolas, canals, and its famous carnival… of course Venice could not be missing from our list! Perhaps Canaletto was the best painter to capture the essence and the light of the jewel of the Adriatic. Through the pictorial genre of the vedute the Venetian painter captured, with immense detail and almost photographic precision, the most emblematic monuments of the city such as the Grand Canal, St. Mark’s Basilica, and the church of Santa Maria della Salute.

3. Delight Yourself with the Sakura Festival in Japan

The well-known Japanese artist Katsushika Hokusai shows us that there is no better way to celebrate the beginning of spring in all its splendor than at the foot of Mount Fuji with the cherry blossoms in bloom! We can almost smell the fragrance of the blossoms through this colored woodcut from the ukiyo-e genre.

4. Discover the Beauty of Tulips in Holland

If, like me, you’re a fan of flowers then you can’t miss the Dutch tulip fields. Yes, tulip fever is real, and the Dutch painter Vincent van Gogh knew it. Muses of painters throughout the history of art, in addition to their fascinating beauty, tulips hide a mysterious symbolism.

5. Summer in Color in Saint-Tropez

And we officially start the summer season by the hand of the painter Henri Matisse! Paving the way for Post-Impressionism, and one of the first proponents of the Fauvist movement, Henri Matisse takes us with his brushstrokes and his intense and provocative colors to the French Riviera in Saint-Tropez!
