If there are two painters you need to know from the Italian Baroque period, they must be Michelangelo Merisi da Caravaggio and Artemisia Gentileschi. Their lives were full of tremendous events, inspiring their art with drama and contrasts of light and dark. Gentileschi was a follower of Caravaggio’s work, making her style quite similar to his.
